From Love to Bingo Getty Images AlmapBBDO

Patient research work involving more than 5 thousand photographs resulted in a 1 minute film that AlmapBBDO created to advertise Getty Images, the world leading image database for creating and distributing visual contents. The film is surprising when showing 873 images in 15 images per second, sufficient speed to transform the series into a video that, without any text, tells a beautiful story. All photos, without any exceptions, are from the Getty Images archives.

Copywriter Sophie Schoenburg and art director Marcus Kotlhar worked 6 months researching images, improving the script and building each scene so they would not only be understood, but would also touch viewers. Sometimes, for example, a scene would look perfect on paper, but the images chosen to depict it were not sufficient or did not perfectly match up to offer the right movement and sense. And hence the research had to be restarted. The film was directed by Cisma, via Paranoid BR, along with Marcos Kotlhar, the art director at the agency.

For this creation team, the purpose was to adhere to the concept that Getty Images has so many images that anybody is capable of telling any story they want by only using their archives. In the film “Do amor ao Bingo em 873 imagens” [From love to Bingo in 873 images], a storyteller in the corner of the screen describes the images used. The Getty Images logo appears at the end of the story, but the storyteller continues to turn until reaching the exact number of images in the Getty Images archive.

Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase Call for Entries 2012

Saatchi & Saatchi London have released the call for entries film for the annual Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase 2012. The viral film, titled Naked Ambition, is directed by renowned director Chris Palmer, and stars an adult movie director whose ambition is to make commercials. His obsession sees him incorporating iconic advertising references, techniques and slogans such as Heineken’s ‘Refreshes the parts others can’t reach’, John Smith’s ‘Ave it’ and ‘It’s a bit of an animal’ from Peperami into his adult films.

The Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase started in 1991, and has become one of the highlights of the annual Cannes International Festival of Creativity. It’s the best attended event after the Award ceremonies. It’s also a demonstration of Saatchi & Saatchi’s commitment to identifying, nurturing and spotlighting new creative talent. The Showcase features directors from around the world identified by Saatchi & Saatchi’s global Network of 140 offices, and through its relationships with highly relevant sites including BUG Music Videos. The final selection is made by the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board. Many past featured directors such as Tarsem, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, Spike Jonze, Ivan Zacharias, Kinka Usher, Danny Kleinman and Jonathan Glazer have gone on to fulfil extremely successful careers as directors.

Pin Portrait of David Ogilvy

From pushpin to portrait: Creatives at Ogilvy & Mather’s Chicago office construct a unique homage to their founder, David Ogilvy.

The Ogilvy and Mather Chicago office has long used pushpins and foam core boards to display new work, and now they’ve created a salute to their founder using the same materials. Concepted by art director Brian Thibodeau and writer Bill Wanek, the iconic picture was constructed using only red, yellow, blue, black, and white pins. The entire agency lent a hand, which is a good thing because each of the over 33,000 pushpins had to be pushed in one at a time. Bill and Brian worked together with John Eiberger (design architect), Dan Delaney (producer), and Nicholas Beaudet (director of photography). Shot and edited by Jill Vanc and Petr Novak of Eyepatch Chicago. Paul Bessenbacher and the team at Emoto Los Angeles composed the musical piece, while Dean Hovey of Soundwell contributed to the sonic landscape.
